New jersey, same game: Powerful Jorelle Singh pounds Coast Guard defense

Jorelle Singh may be sporting a new jersey and playing for a team not named NU, but the burly spiker’s powerful game remains one and the same.

Fresh off a championship run with the Lady Bulldogs, Singh shone bright for her new team, Laoag, and helped the Power Smashers pulverize Coast Guard in a one-sided affair in the Shakey’s V-League Reinforced Conference Saturday.

The new addition to Nes Pamilar’s army led all scorers with 17 points she highlighted with 13 kills in Laoag’s 25-8, 25-15, 25-16 victory that jumpstarted their campaign in the season-ending meet.

“Okay naman po yung first game ko,” said Singh, trying to downplay her vicious debut. “Masaya naman silang kasama. Nag-eenjoy po ako.”

It marked the first time Singh played for a team other than NU on TV and she says it’s all worth it, especially now that she’s sharing the same side of the court with Open Conference MVP Grethcel Soltones and veteran setter Chie Saet.

“First time ko pong maging kakampi si Gretchcel. Masaya naman po kasama si Grethcel, okay naman. Nagkakasundo kami, parehong makulit. Si Ate Chie naman po, magaling na setter. Wala pong problema,” she shared with a grin.

True enough, the trio were seen smiling all game long despite the fact they just started practicing together a few days ago. — By John Bryan Ulanday
