Entering her final year in college, UP captain Kathy Bersola has been in a number of tight battles with FEU.
And after finally beating the Lady Tamaraws after numerous tries on Wednesday night, the middle blocker heaved a sigh of relief.
“Fulfilling siya kasi everyone says na when it comes to mental games, lamang daw sila kaya lagi silang nananalo sa amin,” she said. “Maganda na today, na-overcome namin yun. We played confident and we played as a team. Ayun, nanalo kami.”
Tussles between UP and FEU have become more interesting of late, but the Diliman side has usually received the short end of the stick, especially in crunch time, when the psy wars led by Remy Palma took the wind out of the Lady Maroons.
That wasn’t the case, however, in Game 2 of their battle-for-third series, as UP went out of the gates on a mission and never wavered.
Isa Molde and Nicole Tiamzon each scored 24 points while setter Rem Cailing continued to prove her worth with 45 excellent sets.
Chin Basas and Jerilli Malabanan, on the other hand, led the Lady Tamaraws with 19 and 15 markers, respectively. — By Joyce Palad
