After battling them long and hard, Ateneo star Bea de Leon conceded that NU was the stronger team in the 13th Shakey’s V-League Collegiate Conference finals.
The Lady Eagles dug deep into their bag of tricks, but ran out of gas in the final set to bow to the Lady Bulldogs for the second straight year in the championship round.
“I guess may missing links lang talaga. Clearly, NU was the stronger team,” said De Leon, who led Ateneo with 14 points off 8 hits, 3 blocks and 3 aces.
The Katipunan veteran, however, chose to look at the brighter side of things, saying their inspiring campaign from near-elimination to the silver medal was crucial to their growth as a team post the Alyssa Valdez era.
“In that span of time, na-build namin yung teamwork namin. That’s really huge,” she stressed. “We did it without Kiwi (Ahomiro) and ate Ly. Those were very good signs. I think we’re working well together.”
“We’re building up. We’re rebuilding. We never even knew that we’d reach the Finals. Starting off with 2 losses, we thought we’d be eliminated in the first round. So it’s really a huge victory for us. We’ll just go back to training and hopefully, we’ll be ready by the UAAP,” she added. — By Joyce Palad
