Aiko Urdas appreciates the sacrifices Jaja Santiago has made to make it work for NU in the Shakey’s V-League Collegiate Conference.
And after seeing her teammate travel from Laguna to Pasig just to play for the Lady Bulldogs on Wednesday, the senior spiker said Santiago doesn’t know what ‘pagod’ is.
“Sobrang na-aappreciate namin yung ginawa niya kasi sobrang nakakapagod yun e,” she said. “Sinasabihan namin siya laging magpahinga. Hindi niya alam yung salitang pagod, yung salitang magpahinga.”
True enough, the 6-foot-5 middle blocker was the top-scoring local for Foton Pilipinas when they played Kazakhstan from 1:30pm to 3:15pm.
A couple of hours after, she led all scorers with 25 points for NU, who defeated UP and entered the championship round of the tournament for the fourth straight time.
To beat the Lady Maroons, however, Santiago needed help.
And Urdas, who scored 14 points, was just happy to be of service.
“Sabi lang naman ni coach kanina, ipakita namin na hindi kami umaasa sa isang tao lang,” she said. “Teamwork, tulong-tulong kami.”
After suffering a traumatic ACL tear in 2014, the Pangasinan native has been tentative with her play.
But as she’s seen consistent playing time in the Collegiate Conference, Urdas’s confidence has looked to be building up again. — By John Chester Fajardo
