Lindsay Stalzer returns to beef up Foton in Asian Women’s Club Championship

The MVP is back!

After stunning everyone with her beauty and power when she first set foot in the 2014 PSL Grand Prix with Cignal, Lindsay Stalzer is back to beef up the Foton Pilipinas lineup to boost their campaign for the 2016 Asian Women’s Club Volleyball Championship in Sept. 3 – 11.

Stalzer is best remembered for leading the Foton Tornadoes to their first ever PSL Grand Prix Championship in 2015 together with import Katie Messing. With her great leaping ability and powerful attacks, the 6-foot-1 spiker could tower everyone from all angles.

When asked to represent the Foton Pilipinas in the AWCVC, the Bradley University alum felt excited and grabbed the opportunity right away.

“I was quite honored. It’s a great opportunity to get to play against some of the best teams in Asia,” she told FOX Sports.

“I can already tell that we should mesh well. I’m excited to get back on the court with my old teammates and to really get to know the new ones,” she added.

Foton Pilipinas also tapped last year’s PSL Grand Prix’s Best Outside hitter Ariel Usher to add the much needed firepower to the team.

With Stalzer and Usher’s addition, Foton Pilipinas’ chances for a semifinal slot is not far-fetched.

“I think we need a stronger, more disciplined block when we play teams like China and Japan. We should also speed up our offense to make it harder on the opposing team’s blockers,” Stalzer said.

“I know it will be quite a challenge to put together a solid team with limited time. But I think we have quality players and huge team spirit. Pair that with the advantage of playing at home and who knows what we’re capable of,” she added.

With Foton Pilipinas playing for the first time in the AWCVC that will be held in Biñan, Laguna, Stalzer’s experience and leadership will be a big factor given the short time frame that they have.

“As an import I know my job is to score points and do well statistically. But I would also like to take on more of a leadership role. Just playing consistently and staying strong and confident for the team will be paramount,” said Stalzer.

RC-Cola Army’s Jovelyn Gonzaga, F2 Logistics’ Aby Maraño and Petron’s Jen Reyes will also be present to help Foton Pilipinas. – By Joyce Palad
