George Pascua believes Petron can beat F2, Army in second round

The experiment is over for Petron in the PSL All-Filipino Conference.

Heading into the all-important second round, the Tri-Activ Spikers will now draw all of its aces in the hopes of advancing to the finals of the midseason feast.

With new additions on the roster, coach George Pascua played with his rotation all tournament long, trying to find the proper combination as they finished the first round with a 5-2 record.

“Expected na namin yun kasi before eliminations ang ginagamit ko yung mga bago to adjust. Naka-adjust na sila so parang anytime na ipasok na itong semis kahit papano adjusted na,” he said. “Ayun yung team plan namin, yun na yung magiging flow ng team namin.”

Petron enters the second round on a high note after crushing Standard Insurance-Navy, 25-16, 25-18, 25-19, at the FilOil Flying V Centre Saturday.

Now in the last 4 with the 2 teams that handed them their losses so far, Pascua isn’t concerned, believing he has found the right mix to counter the youth of F2 Logistics and the power of RC Cola-Army.

“Yung nakalaban namin sila kumabaga nasa parang experimental kami kasi yung chemistry di masyadong makuha kasi nga may bago, may luma,” he said.

This time, though, the Tri-Activ Spikers are ready and will demonstrate a different set-up once the second round of the conference begins.

“Kailangan kasi iba-ibahin mo yung tao para kahit papano may twist ng konti, kasi kailangan naming gawin yun e,” he said. “Knowing ang Army matagal ng magkakasama, ang F2 ganun din. Kami lang yung iba-ibang eskwelahan na ibang team.” — By John Chester Fajardo
