Cha Cruz wasn’t at her best Saturday night, but F2 Logistics still managed to slip past RC Cola-Army to sweep the PSL All-Filipino Conference first round.
The former UAAP Finals MVP finished with 5 points and 6 excellent receptions as the Cargo Movers squandered a 2-set lead before prevailing in a thrilling 5-setter before throngs of fans at the FilOil Flying V Centre.
And while she was unable to contribute well on offense, Cruz helped man the floor for F2 Logistics — something coach Ramil de Jesus was a crucial factor in the win.
“Panget lang yung game ko ngayon pero bumabawi naman ako sa likod (defense),” she told FOX Sports. “As explained by coach, service receive yung nagpanalo samin nung 1st two sets and then service receive din yung nagpatalo samin for the 3rd and 4th sets. Medyo naging inconsistent doon. Pero I’m glad na nakabalik naman ng 5th set.”
It’s the first time the Cargo Movers were seriously threatened in the tournament and Cruz is thankful it happened before the playoffs, where they will be joined by the Lady Troopers, Foton and Petron.
“Better narin siguro na ngayo nangyari yung mga posibleng mangyari sa team namin,” she said. “Better na matest namin yung bawat isa.”
“Pinaka malaking nakuha namin sa game na to is kumpyansa na kaya naman namin until the end. Kasi lahat ng teams nakalaban namin for the first round. Siguro more on magkaroon ng mas magandang chemistry and mas maging consistent yung bawat isa sa loob ng court,” she added.
Facing Army again Sunday night, Cruz said there is no time for them to relax.
“First of all kailangan namin ng maayos na pahinga kasi halos sunod-sunod lahat nung games e,” she said. “Siguro focus nalang kasi yung remaining 3 games, yung mga teams malalaks e. so di pwedeng magrelax, mas double time pa talaga dapat.” — By Joyce Palad
