Janet Serafica, struggling Navy look to finish elims with heads held high

The lack of chemistry was the culprit all along.

Standard Insurance-Navy bombed out of the race to the second round of the PSL All-Filipino Conference after a loss to Foton Tuesday at the Batangas City Sports Coliseum.

Team captain Janet Serafica vented her frustration as even after almost a year of playing together, the Lady Corvettes still don’t seem to understand each other on the court.

“Hanggang ngayon (nagkakapaan) pa din kasi di natin maiiwasan iba-ibang school nanggaling, may mga hinahanap-hanap pa rin na ‘uy napakadali ng bola bakit di nahuka?'” she said after they slipped to their fourth loss in 6 matches.

“Yung chemistry namin wino-work out pa. Siguro sa dating pinanggalingang school may inaasahan, e ngayon kailangang magtrabaho.”

Their duties as soldiers apparently are affecting the team’s practices, but the former Adamson stalwart pointed out that these activities should not be an excuse as they should get used to their routines as soldiers.

“Bilang sundalo hindi naman (siya sagabal) kasi part na sya e hanggang sa huling araw ng buhay namin talagang magdu-duty kami. Kumbaga we see to it na routine na yung duty, normal na yung duty,” she added. “Wag lang talaga yung magkaroon ng mga activity na whole day tulad ng bigla silang may firing, whole day naco-consume noon, minsan 2 days pa. Ang hirap kasi yung 2 days na mawala sa amin napakahirap lalo-t nagii-start kami na team napakabata pa.”

After going 0-2 to start the season, the Navy won 2 straight and looked like they have found their pace but was suprisingly halted by Cignal in their fifth game before Foton handed them Loss #4.

Standard Insurance will face Petron in a no-bearing game on Saturday and Serafica said the team is focused to finish the eliminations with their heads held high.

“Naka-focus kami sa laro namin sa Petron, alam namin napakatibay na team, napakabalanced nyan so lahat kailangan naming ayusin.” — By John Chester Fajardo
