Payback time: Gyzelle Sy raring to help Pocari beat Air Force in finals

After overcoming star-studded Bali Pure in the semifinals, Gyzelle Sy and Pocari Sweat are ready to hurdle their final Shakey’s V-League Open Conference challenge: Beat the only team that handled them a loss in the elimination round.

And boy is Sy excited to prove their doubters wrong.

“Challenge sa amin. Natalo nila kami noong elimination, kailangan naming i-prove na mas kaya naming silang talunin. Maghaharap kami sa Finals, doon na lang namin malalaman kung sino talaga,” said the top setter.

“Syempre gusto naming bumawi kasi sila yung tumalo sa amin noong elims so kailangan talaga naming paghandaan, kailangan naming magtyaga and kailangan naming maglaro sa a team.”

After scoring an inspiring comeback win over Bali Pure in their first tussle of the competition, the Lady Warriors suddenly crashed back to earth when they fell to the Jet Spikers 2 nights after.

Since then, Pocari has been on a mission, tearing up the Purest Water Defenders in their last 2 semis games to book a date with Air Force in the championship round.

Sy said losing to the Jet Spikers and then to Bali Pure in Game 1 spurred them to go on beast mode.

“Lahat kami talaganag ginawa namin yung best namin para manalo,” she said. “Yung puso namin nandoon talaga sa loob ng court. Nakafocus kami sa mga ginagawa namin.”

“Sabi ni ate Michele (Gumabao) kung gusto talaga naming manalo ipakita daw namin wag daw naming sabihin. Gusto lang naming i-prove na yung panalo namin sa Bali Pure hindi lang tsamba yun.” — By John Chester Fajardo
