Slow start hampers Laoag against UP, but Nes Pamilar isn’t worried

Laoag might have ousted UP to enter the 13th Shakey’s V-League Open Conference semifinals on Monday, but coach Nes Pamilar believes a slow start like what they had won’t cut it in the playoffs.

The Power Smashers downed the Lady Maroons, 25-21, 19-25, 25-22, 26-24 at the Philsports Arena to set a date with Air Force in the Final Four on Wednesday.

“Masyadong mabagal (sa simula),” said the coach. “Ang (sinasabi) ko nga ‘hindi yan ang pinapraktis.’ Kailangang mas mabilis ang galaw natin. ‘Yung tiwala. ‘Yung kumpyansa nandun. Alam nila na kaya nilang tapusin.”

Pamilar, who was ruing the officiating during the match, did not have problems on the offensive end as 3 Power Smashers breached the double-digit mark with Jovielyn Prado’s at the helm scoring 23 points.

Prado, however, refused to take credit of her outstanding performance.

“Di lang naman po ako yung nagdala. Nagtulung tulong po kaming buong team. Pinagsama-sama namin skills namin, tapang at talino. Naglaro lang po kami ng buo.”

The Arellano University standout also showed her enthusiasm in their upcoming semis matchup.

“’Yung liga (NCAA) po namin hindi po ganon kasikat. Parang overwhelmed po kasi yung mga nakakalaban ko mga dating beterano na, naglalaro na kung saan-saan tapos UAAP players syempre pag sinabing UAAP players sobrang lakas.” — By John Chester Fajardo
