This was how Bia General politely declined to talk about what led to her removal from the NU women’s volleyball roster despite being eligible for Season 79.
NU head coach Roger Gorayeb surprised the sport’s followers when he fielded in the Lady Bulldogs in the ongoing 13th Shakey’s V-League Open Conference with less than a dozen volleybelles in the lineup.
Aside from General, other casualties in the major revamp included Rica Diolan and Marites Pablo who will also not be seeing action for the Sampaloc crew in the next round of the collegiate wars.
“Una nalungkot ako. Ilang taon ako naglaro for NU, diba?” General told FOX Sports.
“Namimiss ko sila,” added the libero.
Though her career with NU has been a slow burn, the diminutive volleybelle rose to the challenge of filling the void left by defensive ace Jen Reyes, efficiently manning the backline for NU in the last 2 years.
Fortunately, no bridges seemed to be burned between General and NU as she gladly shared how the management has allowed her to keep her scholarship.
While her former teammates have already started their own path to rebuilding, General, too, looks like she has already moved on from the incident as she now plays exclusively for powerhouse club team Foton in the Philippine SuperLiga.
Asked if she has a message to her former ‘family’ in F. Jhocson, General kept a tone of gratitude as she chooses to see that the glass is still half-full.
“Wala akong ibang message sa kanila kundi thank you kasi ang laki ng naitulong nila sa akin,” she closed. — By Mac Dionisio
