Cherry Rondina put on a show in the last 2 sets as Foton roared back to life with a 4-set win over Generika in the PSL All-Filipino Conference Thursday at the FilOil Flying V Centre.
The pint-sized bomber finished with a game-high 21 points while towering Jaja Santiago added 12 hits and 4 blocks as the Tornadoes recovered from an opening-day loss with the 25-11, 22-25, 26-24, 25-21 victory.
It was an intense battle between the 2 promising squads, with players like Santiago and the Lifesavers’ Ria Meneses repeatedly jawing at the net.
In the end, however, Generika’s 32 unforced errors proved to be their death knell in a match that was almost statistically-even.
The Lifesavers delivered a balanced attack once more, with 4 spikers posting double-digit scoring led by Shaya Adorador, who had 14 markers.
That and the combined 36 points from Meneses, Chloe Cortez and Wensh Tiu, however, were not enough to give Generika the win in the exciting battle. — By Joyce Palad
