Remember Michelle Morente?
The energizer bunny who sparked Ateneo to back-to-back championships is back training with the Lady Eagles. Her official return to the team, however, is still up in the air.
“I’m training na with them. We started last week, Wednesday. Pinapayagan naman nila akong magtraining so I guess pwede na diba?” she told FOX Sports.
“It’s good to be back. Masarap sa pakiramadam kasi may binalikan ako. I’m back again kung saan ako nagsimula. First training masakit sa katawan, as usual. Ang hirap magpakundisyon pero it really feels so good to be back.”
Morente played a vital role as Ateneo snapped La Salle’s reign atop the UAAP by putting up inspired performance after inspired performance, especially in the Season 76 Finals.
She, however, saw her minutes go down in Season 77 before academic woes forced her out of the team in 2015.
Now back ‘home,’ Morente is very, very excited.
“Actually parang nawala lang ako sandali tapos pagbalik ko everything’s fine. Yung mga dati kong teammates they were very welcoming naman. We’re all happy naman,” she shared.
While she has been practicing with the team, Morente is still waiting for approval if she will be eligible to play in Season 79 as the Lady Eagles try to reclaim the crown they lost this year.
“Siguro para sakin gusto ko ng bumalik. Pero syempre hinihintay ko parin yung say ng office. Dapat this summer mage-enrol na ko kaso wala nga lang classes. So I think, sana payagan na ko ng office na bumalik ng team,” she said.
“Iniisip talaga namin na kailangan naming mag step-up this year. Kasi dati si Ate Ly (Valdez) andyan, si Kiwi (Ahomiro) andyan, si Mae (Tajima) andyan. Tapos ngayon parang kami, ‘grabe, tayo nalang’. Nakaka sad pero sana mag improve kami as a team this year.” — By Joyce Palad
