BVR takes it to the next level with international competition

After a successful national championship that saw Bea Tan and Fiola Ceballos take the crown, Beach Volleyball Republic takes it to the next level with an international competition this week in Cagayan.

Ten overseas teams and 2 Filipino pairs will slug it out for the US$6, 000 top prize in the BVR Invitational set June 9-11 at the Anguib Beach in Sta. Ana, Cagayan.

A total of US$26, 500 is at stake, with the first and second runners-up taking US$4, 500 and US$3, 500, respectively, and the rest of the field netting at least US$1, 000.

BVR founders Charo Soriano and Tan will be one of the home squads while National Championship second-placers Perper Cosas and Dij Rodriguez will also represent the Philippines.

Soriano and Tan of BVR 1 are in Pool B, along with the USA 1 tandem of Jennifer Snyder and Chara Harris and Hong Kong 2 bannered by Kong Cheuk Yee and To Wing Tung.

Cosas and Rodriguez, meanwhile, will be BVR 2 and are slated to compete in Pool A, where they will battle the highly-touted Brazil 1 pair of Rupia Inck and Erica Adachi and Singaporeans Rachel Ting and Eliza Hui.

Meanwhile, Pool C will be headed by the Thailand-USA tandem of Rachel Sherman and SEA Games gold medalist Yupa Phokongploy. Joining them are Singapore 2 and Brazil 2, which will parade Bruna Figueredo and a still unnamed partner.

Completing the cast is Pool D, where the New Zealand pair of Julia Tilley and Alice Bain will lock horns with Alexa Micek and Leah Hinkey of USA 2, and Hong Kong 2’s Lo Wai Yan and Yeung Yeuk Mei. — By Josiah Albelda
