The championship was so sweet, coach Ramil de Jesus doesn’t want to face an impending problem of La Salle.
After an impressive win in Game 3 before a record crowd at the Smart Araneta Coliseum, the veteran mentor won the Lady Spikers’ ninth UAAP women’s volleyball crown.
But as the Taft squad basked in Cloud 9, they have to face the reality that they will bid goodbye to at least 5 players who have used up their playing years in the collegiate ranks.
“Di ko muna pino-problema. Gusto ko muna i-enjoy tong moment na to. Pagdating nung problema, dun ako mamumroblema,” said the coach of the graduation of veterans Mika Reyes, Cyd Demecillo, Ara Galang, Carol Cerveza and Mika Esperanza. “Ito muna, ang tagal kasi naming hinintay ito.”
La Salle’s seniors were present in De Jesus’s highs and lows, winning back-to-back titles in Season 74 and 75 before bowing to the Lady Eagles in Seasons 76 and 77.
Raring for redemption this year, the multi-titled mentor could not help but praise his graduating spikers as they put in the work day in and day out.
“Very proud ako sa kanila kasi after ng Season 77, nakita nila yung gaano kasakit yung matalo, then nag-start kami ng training ng whole year. Pinaghandaan talaga nila, naka-tatak sa puso at isip nila yung dapat niang gawin so itong year na to, di talaga sila magpapatalo,” he said. — By Jason Mercene
