Alyssa made volleyball in the Philippines the best, says Almadro

As almost 23, 000 people flocked to the Smart Araneta Coliseum to witness Game 3 of the UAAP women’s volleyball finals, Ateneo men’s coach Oliver Almadro thanked Alyssa Valdez for making the sport bigger in the country.

“Alyssa made volleyball in the Philippines the best,” he exclaimed. “Pinaganda niya yung volleyball sa bansa.”

“I am very thankful to Alyssa kahit men’s team ako. Kahit kila Mika Reyes, Ara Galang at Amy Ahomiro. Sila nag-buo ng scenario na kagaya nito sa volleyball,” he added. “Dumami yung supporters ng Ateneo. Hindi lang taga Ateneo yung sumusupport sa Ateneo. All walks of life kilala na yung volleyball.”

Almadro, who steered the Blue Spikers to their second straight UAAP crown last Wednesday, hopes youngsters like Finals MVP Kim Dy, Ateneo’s Jho Maraguinot, Cherry Rondina of UST and Rookie of the Year Isa Molde will carry the torch into the next era.

“I hope na yung susunod sa kanila, sana pagtuloy-tuloyin ng mga bata,” he said. — By Arylle Magtalas
