La Salle’s title romp inspires Jeron Teng to go for men’s cage crown

La Salle returned to the top of UAAP women’s volleyball after flaunting their vaunted defense late in Game 3 of the finals Saturday at the Smart Araneta Coliseum.

And as the Lady Spikers celebrated their ninth title, men’s basketball superstar Jeron Teng was all smiles as his schoolmates bagged the most coveted crown.

“Syempre happy ako for them kasi they deserved it,” he told FOX Sports. “Well-rounded e. Lahat nag-contribute. So team effort talaga.”

In Game 3, 5 players scored at least 9 points for La Salle, with Finals MVP Kim Dy leading the way with 17 markers.

Majoy Baron added 11 points while Mika Reyes, Ara Galang and Cyd Demecillo each contributed 9 for the Taft squad.

And as Season 79 is just a few months away, Teng hopes the Lady Spikers’ championship romp inspires the Green Archers to do the same.

“Syempre (na-inspire),” said Teng. “Dapat kami naman next year.”

With Ben Mbala finally making his UAAP debut and a slew of blue-chip rookies flocking to the team mentored by coach Aldin Ayo, the future looks bright for Teng and Co. — By Josiah Albelda
