Having experienced playing in the finals — and winning championships — herself, former La Salle superstar Cha Cruz knows what hit the Lady Spikers in their Game 2 loss Wednesday at the Mall of Asia Arena.
At the venue to personally support her alma mater, the Season 74 Finals MVP said the Taft belles relaxed in the third set after building a 2-0 lead.
“Siguro pagdating ng third set, nag relax,” she explained. “And nagpakita naman talaga Ateneo they really want that set. Medyo naging mental na lang lahat. Kaya naman kung physical lang diba?”
Cruz, who now plays for F2 Logistics in the Philippine Superliga, said La Salle needs vocal leaders who will guide them when the going gets tough.
Such was the case when the Lady Spikers tore through the UAAP from Seasons 73 to 75, with Michele Gumabao and Aby Marano among others providing the additional boost with their loud play.
“Kulang I think, lalo na sa third set and the rest, parang kulang yung pag uplift na attacks. Lahat sila naghihintayan,” she said. “Lahat sila nag-aabangan sa sarili. Walang nag-step up and nagdala.”
With La Salle’s back against the wall, Cruz tells the Lady Spikers, especially its seniors, to come out ready for Game 3 on Saturday.
“Re-group. Alam naman nila na kaya naman nila. Alam ko naman na mag-bounce back sila kasi last na nila ‘yun. They really need to give their best,” she said. “Seniors, kailangan pa nila mag-step up at kilalanin nila kung sino sila at kung ano yung kaya nila.” — By Arylle Magtalas
