After big La Salle win, Kim Dy says no to overconfidence

For Kim Dy, La Salle’s Game 1 win was a story of never giving up.

Dy and the Lady Spikers trailed in all 3 sets but came through when it mattered most to deny Ateneo in the UAAP Season 78 women’s volleyball finals Saturday at the Smart Araneta Coliseum.

The former UAAP Juniors MVP, who has been instrumental in the Taft squad’s run to the Last Dance, said they never folded even when the Lady Eagles built solid leads on them.

“Hindi ko iniisip nung lumalamang sila. Wala akong iniisip na hindi namin kaya. Iniisip ko lang na ito yung game na kailangan ko ibigay yung lahat,” she said. “Hangga’t hindi umabot ng 25, hindi kami titigil.”

Dy scored 15 points highlighted by 11 hits to lead La Salle anew, but the junior spiker out of Zobel their splendid performance was a total team effort.

“I think everyone woke up on the right side of the bed. Kita naman na lahat gumalaw nang maayos. It was really a team effort,” she said, while adding that their 5 graduating players is her source of inspiration

Already one win away from bringing back the title to Manila, Dy is cautious enough to not take defending champion Ateneo lightly in Game 2 on Wednesday.

“Winning this game, advantage sa amin kasi we only need one more game to win pero hindi dapat maging overconfident kasi baka majinx,” shared Dy. “Ateneo, they are really a strong team. Kailangan rin namin mag-adjust. We should never be contented on what kind of game we gave today kasi they are always room for improvement.” — By Jason Mercene
