Ateneo or Kim Dy? Marck Espejo weighs in on UAAP finals

Reigning UAAP MVP Marck Espejo has once more led Ateneo to the men’s volleyball finals, where they will be facing NU on Saturday.

A few hours after the Blue Spikers’ match, the Lady Eagles also begin their 3-peat bid, battling La Salle in the championship series.

Espejo, who’s expected to bring home another MVP plum this year, expressed happiness as both Ateneo teams made the Season 78 finals.

“Syempre masaya and achievement iyon para sa amin kasi for 3 consecutive years, lagi kaming nasa finals,” he told FOX Sports. “I’m so happy and proud of them na they made it to the finals again kasi sa lahat ng hirap at sacrifices nila before season nag pay off.”

But as the Lady Eagles take on the Lady Spikers, Espejo will also be watching and cheering for someone from the other side — Kim Dy.

Dy, who started the season off the bench, has made major strides for La Salle in the second round and will actually be one of the Katipunan squad’s biggest problems in the Last Dance.

Espejo credits the former UAAP Juniors MVP for persevering.

“I’m so proud of her kasi kahit off the bench at kahit pa substitute substitute siya nung first round ay naka perform kagad siya and naka contribute ng sobrang laki sa team,” he said.

“Syempre sobrang saya ko rin kasi minsan sinasabihan ko rin siya kung ano iisipin niya during the game, kung ano ang mindset dapat. I’m so proud of her talaga kasi nag pay off lahat ng hirap niya and sacrifices din,” he added.

But as Game 1 tips off, the question for Espejo will be who is he gonna cheer for when Blue and Green face off for the crown?

“Syempre school ko parin ang ichi-cheer ko,” he stressed. “Pero syempre konting smile smile pag Kim Dy diba.” — By Joyce Palad
