Skipper Mylene Paat blames self for not leading Adamson enough

As Adamson bowed to UE in a deflating loss, team captain Mylene Paat blames herself for not leading the Lady Falcons well enough in her first year as skipper.

The San Marcelino side ended a disastrous year with a 17-25, 22-25, 27-29 defeat to the Lady Warriors in the UAAP Season 78 women’s volleyball tournament at the FilOil Flying V Center in San Juan.

“Ayaw ko sisisihin yung sarili ko pero parang ganun na nga kasi yung kinahinatnan ng team ganito,” Paat told FOX Sports.

“Sabi ko sa sarili ko ginawa ko naman lahat ng makakaya ko para i-handle yung team. Siguro naisip ko tuloy na yung pagiging captain ball hindi para sa akin, kasi hindi ko ma-handle ng tama at ng maganda,” she added. “Pero promise, honestly, ginawa ko talaga lahat ng makakaya ko.”

Despite claiming she tried her best to be a captain for Adamson, Paat felt her teammates are pinning the blame on her for her lack of leadership.

“Oo naman, kasi kung ikaw yung nasa posisyon ko, mararamdaman mo yung bawat galaw at yung pagsasama ng team,” she said.

In the disheartening loss to UE, Paat just finished with 5 points — another disappointing performance in a season where she has seen just very few bright spots.

The Pangasinan native says she knows the Lady Falcons need her, but even as she attempted to contribute, she was unable to deliver.

“Siyempre gusto ko tumulong na i-boost yung team. Nakaka-score na. Gusto ko sila i-boost at i-lift up sarili nila kasi maski ako hindi nag-perform ng well,” she said. “Ginawa ko lang lahat ng makakaya ko.”

Now that she is set to move up the semi-pro ranks pending her decision to play for Adamson in Season 79, Paat just hopes the Lady Falcons will be better next year.

“Siyempre gusto nila bumawi lalo na mga rookies namin at sophomores. Kahit wala man ako, kaya nila yan,” she admitted.

And who will she want to replace her as team captain, if ever she chooses to leave the university?

“Siguro si Dimple Lebumfacil, yung libero namin. Totoong tao kasi yan. Kung sinabi niyang babawi siya, babawi siya. Nakikita yun ng team. Kaya niya mag-handle ng isang team. Naranasan naman na niya maging captain ball. So kaya niya yun,” Paat closed. — By Arylle Magtalas
