Struggling as a leader, Myla Pablo finds refuge in teammates

Myla Pablo has struggled living up to her responsibilities as team captain for NU this season.

The senior spiker admits it and she knows it’s been a factor in the Lady Bulldogs’ roller-coaster ride in the UAAP Season 78 women’s volleyball tournament.

With their Final Four hopes on the edge, Pablo asked for help. She got it.

“Sabi ko lang sa team ko na tulungan nila ako, kasi hindi ko kaya dalhin yung team ko,” she said after NU stayed alive with a big 3-set win over UP.

“Sabi ko, ‘Tapikin mo lang ako Jorelle (Singh),'” she added. “Ikaw na yung mag team captain muna. Tapos tinulungan ako ng team ko.”

Their surprise sweep of the Lady Maroons pushed NU to a 6-6 record, pulling them just a game behind FEU and UP, who are tied at third and fourth places with identical 7-5 cards.

Down to their last two matches against UST and La Salle, the Lady Bulldogs hope to continue an improbable comeback by serving vengeance against the Golden Tigresses, who beat them in the first round.

“Doon kami nagsimula bumaba, kaya kailangan namin bawiin,” she said. “As the team captain, kailangan namin talunin yung UST. Kailangan namin isipin na nung natalo kami sa game na iyon, dun kami bumaba. Kaya kailangan namin bumawi.” — By Arylle Magtalas
