Aby Maraño stays positive despite PSL All Stars’ winless start

Middle Spiker Aby Maraño remains upbeat despite the Philippine SuperLiga All Stars’ winless start in the Thai-Denmark Super League in Bangkok, Thailand.

The PSL All Stars opened the tournament with a 4-set loss, 23 – 25, 11 – 25, 16 – 25, 9 – 25, at the hands of the Defending Asian Club champion Bangkok Glass last Wednesday. The PSL All Stars dropped their second match against Idea Khonkaen, 22 – 25, 20 – 25, 19 – 25, Thursday.

Due to time constraint, the All Stars had a limited time to train together which is evident in their past games. But even with less preparation time, the team is actually having a decent showing in the tournament.

Tagged as one of the best middle hitters in the country, Maraño is amazed at some of the middle blockers in Thailand.

Iba talaga ang setter to spiker connection nila dito,” Maraño said.

A first-timer in Thailand, Maraño squeezed in between games to check out the city of Bangkok.

“So far ang saya. First time ko dito sa Thailand pero na-eexplore ko naman,” Maraño said.

While it’s hard to play outside the country in a hostile environment, Maraño and the rest of the team are still motivated and inspired despite all the negativity hounding them.

“Motivation ko din to do better is yung fact na there is someone better than me. Ibig sabihin, I want to improve and learn more.
