Army will sorely miss Ging Balse’s maturity, leadership, says coach

As RC Cola-Army fights its battles within the PSL Invitationals arena, the Lady Troopers were one soldier down after veteran Ging Balse announced her pregnancy and subsequent leave from the team.

Coach Kung Fu Reyes said the departure of the ex-UST superstar is a big blow to their current campaign.

“Sa playing concern, malaki epekto na nawala si Ging,” he told FOX Sports. “Pero kami, 100% yung suporta namin sa kanya for being pregnant. Kailangan lang namin mag-adjust, that’s the reality. Malaking kawalan yung pwesto ni Ging, pero pinipilit naming punuan yun.”

Even though Army has a troop of backup middle blockers raring to get an opportunity to play, Reyes believes that what Balse used to bring to the table is different.

“Siguro 60-70% ready na sila (replacements). Medyo naghahabol pa rin kami,” he added. “Although di naman nila kayang palitan si Balse. Iba kasi yung Balse e. Yung basa kasi ng bola, syempre pati maturity, leadership. Yun yung mahirap palitan dun e.”

After easily winning their matches so far, the Lady Troopers are in a good position nearing the final round. But Reyes doesn’t want to think too far ahead.

“Pipilitin syempre. Basta maging consistent lang kami dun sa ginagawa namin,” he said. “I-apply lang namin yung dapat namin gawin. Kasi yung basahan ng player halos lahat naman magkakakilala e. Let’s see.” — By Joyce Palad
