Since being converted into UST’s libero, Rica Rivera has not been subbed out, that is until she showed rocky reception in their 2nd meeting with La Salle Saturday at the FilOil Flying Center.
The former UAAP beach volley champion said it was because of pressure.
“Hindi consistent. Sobrang pressured siguro. Parang gusto kong i-prove na hindi lang chamba galaw ko,” Rivera told FOX Sports. “Gusto ko rin i-prove sa sarili ko na kaya kong gampanan yung role ko as a libero.”
With Cherry Rondina and EJ Laure leading the Golden Tigresses in reception and digging against the Lady Spikers, Rivera was unable to deliver in her supposed field of expertise.
The Cebu native she knows La Salle will try to bombard them with heavy service and she admitted to not being ready physically and mentally when they met again.
“Siguro wala sa kundisyon yung katawan ko, parang nabitin kasi kanina yung warm up namin,” she said. “Wala rin sa kundisyon yung mindset ko.”
Heading into their next assignments, Rivera has to regain her fine form, especially because the Espana spikers are in a tight battle for the a Final Four spot as the season enters its twilight zone.
Taking pressure off her head will be crucial, and she tries to ease her mind by unleashing her spiking prowess in practice.
“Para hindi ko rin ma-pressure sarili ko, pumapalo pa rin ako sa training,” she shared. “Para mawala rin yung pressure ko sa pagiging libero. Happy naman ako sa performance ko.” — By Arylle Magtalas
