Final Four aspirant FEU took a blow after getting blasted by Ateneo in the UAAP Season 78 women’s volleyball tournament Sunday at the FilOil Flying V Center in San Juan.
The Lady Tamaraws’ play was so bad that coach Shaq delos Santos believes they still would have lost even if the Lady Eagles delivered minimal effort.
“Hindi talaga maganda yung laro namin,” he said. “Kahit ano talaga mangyari, kahit basic lang (yung Ateneo), yung galaw namin sa court, hindi talaga maayos, magiging ganun pa rin yung score.”
Delos Santos pointed to his veterans, Bernadeth Pons and Remy Palma, for playing below par in the lackluster 17-25, 10-25, 21-25 defeat — their 5th of the season.
Pons and Palma combined for only 11 points, failing to help out their youngsters in Toni Rose Basas and Jerrili Malabanan.
“Sila yung inaasahan namin bago pa dumating yung game na ito. Sila yung inaasahan,” the coach emphasized. “Kung wala silang na-perform, wala din ipe-perform yung mga bata. Kapag alam ng mga bata na gumagalaw sila ng maganda, sasabay din sila.”
FEU next takes on NU in a crucial matchup that could decide whether or not they qualify for the postseason.
To this, Delos Santos says the coaching staff and the Lady Tamaraws will take a different approach.
“Pagpa-planuhan muna namin ang kalaban. Change ulit kami ng game plan,” he said. “Iba galaw ng NU. May mas malaki silang player. Pag-aaralan namin yung kilos nila at kailangan maitaas namin kahit ano mangyari.” — By Arylle Magtalas
