La Salle continues turnaround in men’s volley after beating FEU

Its 1st round performance was lackluster to say the least, but La Salle is dead serious in turning things around in the UAAP Season 78 men’s volleyball tournament.

The Green Spikers pulled off yet another inspiring win, this time taking down a Final Four contender in FEU, 26-24, 19-25, 25-23, 25-21, Saturday at the FilOil Flying V Arena.

Skipper Raymark Woo waxed hot for La Salle, exploding for 22 points off 18 kills, 3 service aces, and a block to lead his team to their first back-to-back wins this season.

Being one of the stronger teams on paper, the boys off Taft puzzled pundits as they blew hot and cold in their 1st 8 outings.

“This is what was expected of them all along,” said La Salle head coach Ron Dulay after the win.

Despite being outperformed in the attacking department — 38-50 — the Green Spikers took advantage of the Tamaraws’ 42 unforced errors to gain momentum especially in the dying minutes of sets 3 and 4.

Although still at 7th place, Dulay is positive that La Salle can make a run to the playoffs as long as they maintain their focus.

“The key for us now is to sustain this momentum moving forward para maganda ang finish namin sa season,” said the coach.

La Salle’s next assignment will be UST, a surging team also in the lower half of the rankings.
