Fuming UST coach Odjie Mamon tells Tigers to respect their opponents

UST crushed UE in their UAAP Season 78 men’s volleyball tournament Sunday morning, but coach Odjie Mamon was far from happy.

Moments after the Tiger Spikers completed the 25-13, 25-15, 25-11 victory over the Red Warriors at the FilOil Flying V Center, Mamon expressed his displeasure at his wards’ overconfidence.

“Masama loob ko sa mga players. Kasi parang they came to the game, alam nila mananalo sila, pero hindi sila nag-prepare,” he told the press. “They should prepare, mentally, mag-focus sila for the game, kung sino man yung kalaban. Wala silang focus kaya ako nagalit.”

Winning the game mostly because of UE’s 33 unforced errors, Mamon shares his frustration about their useless preparations.

“Kung ganyan gagawin nila against a different team, useless yung preparations. Kung mag-prepare lang sila specifically for certain teams, hindi naman pwede yun,” he said.

Respect is what the coach demanded to see from his players, even if they are battling a winless team. Unfortunately, he was not able to see any respect from the Tigers.

“It boils down to respect. Kasi particular ako doon e. You respect your opponent,” Mamon said. — By Arylle Magtalas
