Energized UP takes down uninspired Ateneo

It was a Battle of Katipunan unlike any other in recent memory.

After dropping the 1st set, upstart UP turned the tables on Ateneo to run away with a massive 4-set upset in the UAAP Season 78 women’s volleyball tournament Sunday at the FilOil Flying V Center in San Juan.

The Lady Maroons banked on a rock-solid offensive attack, taking advantage of the Lady Eagles’ faulty reception, to complete the 19-25, 25-22, 25-17, 25-22 victory before a wild crowd at the venue.

While it was Ateneo who was the defending champion, the ladies off Diliman never got intimidated and their mix of steady veterans and super rookies proved to be too much for the tense Lady Eagles to overcome.

The win allowed UP to move closer to their victims with a 5-3 record while Ateneo dropped to 6-2.
