‘One step at a time,’ says Dulay as La Salle snaps 6-game skid

‘Me and Green have each other’s backs’ – Bogut after his NBA return

La Salle arrested a 6-game losing skid by exacting vengeance on UP, 27-25, 25-21, 18-25, 23-25, 15-11, in the UAAP Season 78 men’s volleyball tournament Saturday at the FilOil Flying V Center in San Juan.

“Medyo maganda yung nilaro kasi yung kulang ng team namin, nakuha na namin,” coach Ronald Dulay said as the Green Spikers completed a 1st-set comeback that set the tone for hte hard-earned victory.

“Kailangan lang talaga mag-usap nung team,” he added. “Naging problema din namin before, kapag nalamangan na kami, ang nangyayari, nado-down na. Pero ngayon, talagang nagtutulungan sila. Kahit mapuntusan sila ng malayo, andun pa rin yung puso nila manalo.”

La Salle, however, found the Fighting Maroons a tough customer, especially in the 3rd and 4th sets as the Diliman spikers crept back into the game.

Poor reception was a major factor in the Green Spikers’ mid-game meltdown and Dulay said he just instructed his wards to focus on getting the first ball well.

And even though UP zoomed to a 10-3 lead in the decider, La Salle regrouped and forced the Maroons to 4 straight errors, snatching the momentum and slamming the door shut on their opponents.

With the win, the Green Spikers moved to 2-6 while UP fell to an even 4-4 card.

“Siguro sa ngayon, step-by-step muna. One game at a time. Magprepare muna kami para sa next game namin against FEU. Then after nun, isa-isa na. Ayaw naming isipin kagad yung dulo e. Trabahuhin muna namin.” — By Joyce Palad
