Cha Cruz shares La Salle had ‘fire in their eyes’ as they faced Ateneo

Cha Cruz, who helped lead La Salle to back-to-back championships a few years ago, said it was the Lady Spikers’ chemistry that did the trick in beating Ateneo in the UAAP Season 78 women’s volleyball tournament last Saturday.

Cruz was one of the more than 16, 000 people who trooped to the Smart Araneta Coliseum to witness the titanic battle between the league’s top teams.

And as the Taft crew mowed down the Lady Eagles in the last 2 sets, Cruz could not hide her excitement.

“Sobrang proud of them! Aside from that, nakaka-proud kasi nage-enjoy sila not because of the pressure, but because of the God-given talents na binigay sa kanila,” said the Season 74 Finals MVP.

“Nakakatuwa kasi na-utilize talaga nila lahat ng strength nila, and at the same time, nag-gel sila sa loob.”

Cruz, who now suits up for F2 Logistics in the PSL, praised everyone for accomplishing a job well done.

“Actually lahat sila, from Kim (Dy), from Yeye (Reyes), from Kim (Fajardo), kay Dawn (Macandili), kay Ara (Galang), and for Tin (Tiamzon) na siyempre for a rookie player medyo mabigat ‘yun, but I’m glad na nakakasabay siya sa rhythm and all that. Nakakatuwa, everyone,” Cruz told FOX Sports.

“May fire sa mata nila na you can see na they really really want to win,” she said. “Not because na may kailangan silang bawiin na korona, but because may gusto silang patunayan, at nakikita naman in action not just in words.” — By Arylle Magtalas
