Season 77 Finals MVP Amy Ahomiro couldn’t hide her enthusiasm as their much-awaited rematch with La Salle in UAAP volleyball drew closer.
“This is the game I’ve waiting for since they gave us the schedule,” she said. “I am super excited.”
While Ateneo has been hardly challenged in stringing up 6 straight wins to start Season 78, the New Zealand native believes the Lady Spikers will give them a tough time.
“It’s always fun to play against La Salle. It’s always a challenge. Hopefully we’re ready for the challenge. We’ll see on Saturday,” she told FOX Sports.
“We want to win, because we’ve been preparing for a while for the game. Siguro everyone knows naman it’s going to be a great battle, so hopefully we come out with a win, but we’ll just be doing what we’ve been training for, and hopefully that’s enough,” she added.
For the Lady Eagles to do so, Ahomiro believes they should focus on the match and be locked in come game time.
“Siguro it’s more on the mind, kasi we train a lot. We know naman what we’re supposed to do on the court,” she said.
“But the biggest factor the comes in when we play with a team like La Salle is all the pressure, all the outside pressure, all the stuff that people are saying,” she added. “I think we just need to focus on ourselves. We just need to get our heads in the game, and hopefully we’ll do well.”
Being one of the seniors in the team, and having been able to play the Taft squad, Ahomiro is expected to lead, along with captain Alyssa Valdez. However, she does not want to let the pressure get in the way of her duties.
“There’s always pressure naman, but it’s important not to let it go to the better of you,” she said. “Being a senior, it’s a lot of pressure naman on us—to guide the young.” — By Arylle Magtalas
