Fille Cainglet cites difference of past, present Ateneo squads

Watching Ateneo in the UAAP Season 78 women’s volleyball tournament, Fille Cainglet-Cayetano could not help but compare the Lady Eagles to the teams she’s led before.

“Sobrang ibang iba. Nakita ko na super tangkad nila. Super different na from out team,” she said as the defending champs walloped Adamson. “As in dominant na sa attacks.”

Now seeing Maddie Madayag and Bea de Leon dazzle from the middle, Cainglet shared her happiness about Ateneo being powerful at the position they used to have problems at during the Fab 5 era.

“Nakita ko si Maddie and Bea, sobrang laki ng potential nila,” she told FOX Sports. “Sobrang helpful (nila) sa team dahil sa height nila. Kami dati nagsstruggle sa mga middle players namin, ngayon sobrang happy na ako, sobrang happy na nila sa middle.”

Aside from watching the games of the Lady Eagles, Cainglet would support her former teammates in other ways as well.

“If I have time, I go to the training, and kung may time sila, I invite them for lunch or dinner,” she said.

Cainglet is currently busy supporting her brother-in-law, Senator Alan Cayetano, in the latter’s vice-presidential bid and because of this, she had to skip the ongoing PSL Invitational.

Nevertheless, she will still continue to play beach volleyball, and is set to play in the succeeding legs of the Beach Volleyball Republic along with Bea Tan and Dzi Gervacio.

Asked if she was contented with only beach volleyball to keep her active, she said, “I’m okay naman, and I have a kid to take care of.” — By Arylle Magtalas
