The three-time former heavyweight boxing champion was admitted to an undisclosed hospital earlier this week to receive follow-up care for a urinary tract infection and is expected to be released on Friday.
“Ali hopes to celebrate his 73rd birthday on Saturday at home with his family,” said family spokesman Bob Gunnell said on Thursday.
“The Muhammad Ali family respectfully requests privacy. No further details are being released at this time.”
Former Olympic gold medallist Ali was released from hospital on January 7 after a two-week stay.
Ali, who retired from boxing in 1981, has seen his public appearances diminish in recent years as he continues to battle Parkinson’s disease.
