Blue Jackets too good for Penguins

The Columbus Blue Jackets beat the Pittsburgh Penguins in the NHL on Friday night, while the Anaheim Ducks slipped to defeat against the New York Islanders.

Sergei Bobrovsky made 28 saves and was only denied a shutout in the final minute as the Blue Jackets beat the Penguins 2-1.

Bobrovsky was finally beaten by Patric Hornqvist with 57 seconds left to play, but had done enough to preserve the win for Columbus after second-period goals from Scott Hartnell and Brandon Saad.

Karri Ramo made 34 saves as the Calgary Flames beat the Washington Capitals 3-2 in overtime. Sean Monahan scored two goals, the second 1:40 into overtime as Calgary won for the fourth time in six.

Martin Jones made 26 saves and Melker Karlsson, Matt Nieto and Joe Pavelski all found the net as the San Jose Sharks beat the Detroit Red Wings 3-2 at Joe Louis Arena.

And Frans Nielsen scored twice in the third period to lock down victory for the New York Islanders as they beat Anaheim 4-1 in California.
