The Autódromo José Carlos Pace, commonly known simply as Interlagos, is located in the Brazilian city of Sao Paulo. It was renamed after Brazilian driver Jose Carlos Pace who was killed in  a plane crash in 1977.

Construction on the track began in 1938, with racing making it's debut in 1940. The first Formula One race, a non-Championship race, was held at the venue in 1972, with an official Brazilian Grand Prix taking place the following year. Due to safety concerns regarding the bumpy surface, F1 exited Interlagos in 1980.

After a $15million upgrade F1 returned to the track in 1990. The track was modified again in 2007.
