Circuit name: Red Bull Ring
Circuit Length: 4.326 km
Lap Record: 1:08.337 – M Schumacher (2003)
Originally known as the Österreichring, the track first hosted Formula One from 1970-1987. After a ten-year absence F1 returned to the venue, then known as the A1-ring and grand prix were hosted there from 1997-2003.
Extensive renovations were planned, but as money ran dry the under construction venue lay dormant for a number of years. The track was purchased for testing by Red Bulls owner Dietrich Mateschitz. It initially appeared that Mateschitz would not look to return to the track to a state suitable for F1, but in late work began on a €70m reconstruction of the track and F1 returned to the famous venue once more in 2014.
