Senators squeeze past Islanders

Matt Puempel and Kyle Turris scored second-period goals as the Senators remained hot on the heels of Boston for the second wild-card spot in the NHL Eastern Conference, dealing the Islanders a third consecutive home loss.

Anaheim snapped a three-game skid with a 2-1 triumph over the Minnesota Wild, goaltender John Gibson making 32 saves for the Ducks at Xcel Energy Center.

Dallas scored three power-play goals – through Shawn Horcoff, Tyler Seguin and Vernon Fiddler – in a 4-2 triumph over the Washington Capitals at Verizon Center. Colton Sceviour was also on target for the Stars.

Alexander Wennberg netted the decisive goal in the fifth round of the shootout to propel the Columbus Blue Jackets to a 5-4 win over the Edmonton Oilers at Nationwide Arena, while Sean Monahan scored twice as the Calgary Flames overcame the Toronto Maple Leafs 6-3.
