copy- Ronaldo bags 50th career hat-trick in Girona romp

Real Madrid, Ronaldo

Cristiano Ronaldo set yet another landmark on Sunday, hitting four goals as Real Madrid smashed Girona for six in a 6-3 win at the Santiago Bernabeu.

The Portuguese star bagged his 50th career hat-trick, scoring in the 11th, 47th and 64th minutes, before adding a fourth in injury-time as Real eased past a spirited Girona side to move into third place in the La Liga table.

Ronaldo now has 44 hat-tricks for Madrid, five for Portugal and one for Manchester United.

He has now scored an amazing 21 goals in his last 11 games for Zinedine Zidane’s resurgent side.

The goals also saw him move above Luis Suarez (21 goals) and into second place on 22 goals for the season, behind Lionel Messi (25) in the La Liga scoring charts.

And while it may be too late for his goals to rescue Madrid’s poor La Liga season – they remain 15 points behind Barcelona with just nine games remaining – few would bet against Madrid making it three Champions League titles in a row if Ronaldo keeps up his current goal-scoring form.

Portugal fans will also remain optimistic that their talisman could perhaps lead them to glory in Russia this summer.
