Inkster, who has won the event twice in the past, is currently in third place and will be looking to overtake Morgan Pressel on top of the leaderboard, during the second round on Saturday.
However, Inkster attributes her success to her familiarity with the Dinah Shore Tournament Course at Mission Hills Country Club.
"I enjoy the game and I enjoy working at it," she told lpga.com. "I like the process of it. But these girls are our future. You know, I’m just lucky I can still come out here and compete a little bit."
The 54-year-old also conceded that she is also looking to become an eight-time major winner, which will put her in a class of her own.
"What I like about the Majors is you don’t have to shoot 20-under or 18-under to win," she said. "If you can come in around par, 1, 2, 3-under and come Sunday you’ll have a shot. So that’s kind of why I like Majors."
