The West Ham boss – currently presiding over a run of one win in nine Premier League games – has previously said that he would win “the Double or the league every time” if he were manager of United or Chelsea.
Speaking on the Clare Balding Show this week, Allardyce said: “If I didn’t say West Ham were the dream club to manage then I’d be in trouble with West Ham fans…but it has been a dream club to manage.
“There has always been one [dream club] – and that is Man United.
“Playing at Old Trafford myself and then going back there as a manager, so I think probably in this country, they are the one.”
Allardyce famously said in September 2010: “I’m not suited to Bolton or Blackburn, I would be more suited to Internazionale or Real Madrid.
“It wouldn’t be a problem to me to go and manage those clubs because I would win the Double or the league every time.
“Give me Manchester United or Chelsea and I would do the same, it wouldn’t be a problem. It’s not where I’m suited to, it’s just where I’ve been for most of the time.
“It’s not a problem to take me into the higher reaches of the Champions League or Premier League and would make my job a lot easier in winning it.”
