Monk calls for strong finish

The Welsh club can achieve the feat by beating Everton at the Liberty Stadium this weekend but Monk is demanding his side accelerate through the finish line of an impressive campaign.

With Swansea sitting eighth on 46 points, Monk said of the record: “It’s what we’re fighting for. It’s what our focus is. A lot of people have questioned what we’ve got to fight for in recent weeks.

“We’re not in a relegation battle and we’re not fighting for Europe but that’s what it is. It’s one of the targets that we set at the start of the season and if we could achieve it at some point during the season – we’ve got a great chance now.

“We’re one point behind it with seven games to go and hopefully we can surpass it and really try and push on from there. We have an opportunity to do it on Saturday and there’s no time to waste. Let’s 100% focus.

“I’ll say more towards the end of the season but you set targets yourself as a manager. I spoke to the group at the start of the season and asked them what they wanted to improve on and their ambitions.

“We sat down as a group and I gave my views, they gave theirs and came up with different types of targets. We’re on course for most of them so hopefully when we get to the end of the season I can reveal a few more to you.”
