The Ducati rider topped the timesheets with a 1:49.697 for much of the qualifying session for Sunday's WSBK round at Aragon. However, he would have to settle for second after being pipped to the post by Leon Haslam.
While a front row berth is by no means a poor showing, Davies was resolute in his belief that he could have, and perhaps should have, done better.
"I made a couple of mistakes early on so I was a bit disappointed not to get pole,” the Welshman told Crash.net.
“I didn't really deserve to get it with the mistakes that were made. We were pushing the front a lot at the start of the lap but we're on the front row for tomorrow and that's the important thing. We'll keep focussing on the race pace.
"[At turn one] I was a bit wide and then it [the front] tucked at the last minute. I lost the line for turn two and I lost a couple of tenths there. I felt all this grip with the rear all of a sudden and it started pushing the front. It came good halfway round the lap because the grip dropped quite quickly.”
Davies will be looking to bounce back in Aragon after a disappointing second round of the season in Thailand where he finished 11th and 15th.
