18:07 Thank you for joining us for FP3! We’ll be back at 20:00, when we’ll find out who will start where. Please do join us for that, and until then, take it easy.

18:05 Here’s the order for you:

18:00 And that’s it for FP3! A bit of an anticlimax at the end, but it’s immensely tight at the top. Almost all of the drivers went out on inters right at the end, perhaps just to get a bit of a feel for things in case its raining later on for Qualifying.

17:55 Five minutes left. No further action so far, except for Stoffel Vandoorne, who has been sent out on a set of intermediates to ensure that everything is in order with his power unit. It seems both team and driver are satisfied, and the McLaren is wheeled back into the garage.

17:50 We aren’t likely to see much action for the rest of the session…

17:45 And here comes the rain! Max Verstappen was the last driver out on circuit and made a mistake in turn 7. Red Bull urge their youngster to try another lap, but the reply is short and simple: ” Forget it, it’s raining.”

17:39 Behind the top three we have Raikkonen, just under seven tenths adrift. The Red Finn is on par with the leaders in sectors 1 and 3, but is bleeding away half a second in the middle sector. Behind him there’s an enormous gap of another seven tenths, but P5 is occupied by Nico Hulkenberg for Renault, which is impressive. The German continues to do well with a car that is, to be diplomatic, a work in progress.

17:34 Vettel splits the two Mercedes, 0.032 seconds down on Hamilton, but a tenth up on Bottas. Replays show that the Ferrari man ran a little wide in the final sector. Bottas has another go and closes to within 0.074 seconds of Hamilton, but remains P3. The top three are separated by less than a tenth of a second!

17:29 The two Mercedes’ are out on supersofts, as are the two Ferraris Are they trying to get in a Qualifying simulation before it really starts raining?

17:25 It’s certainly all silver at the top right now; will anyone have an answer later on?

17:20 Here’s the top of the order for you after the early stages of the session:

17:17 Hamilton has taken over at the top, pipping Bottas by 0.080 seconds. Most of the drivers have come out for at least one run, with Magnussen, Palmer and Massa the only exceptions.

17:12 Bit of a difference in program between our main protagonists: the Mercedes pair are out on softs, while the Ferrari duo are using the supersofts. The silver cars remain in front, though. Meanwhile, Raikkonen has reported a bit of rain. It certainly is rather gloomy out there…

17:07 The two Mercedes have set the early pace, with Bottas on a 1.29.393, a tenth and a half up on Hamilton.

17:02 FP3 is go! Several drivers are straight out. Here’s a picture of the weather for you.

16:56 It seems possible that things may get a little wetter soon…

16:52 Ten minutes to go. It’s dry at Silverstone, but overcast and gloomy, with an air temperature of 15 degrees and a track temperature of 21 degrees.

16:45 It was a bit of a rough start for Ferrari yesterday as they were behind Red Bull in FP1, but they managed P3 (Raikkonen) and P4 (Vettel) in the afternoon session, with the world championship leader declaring himself happy with the progress they had made throughout the day.

16:40 Unfortunately for Bottas, an unscheduled gearbox change means he will drop five places on the grid after Qualifying later on, which puts a bit of a dent on what was shaping up to be a strong weekend for him.

16:35 Yesterday was a good day for Mercedes, and in particularly Valtteri Bottas, as the Finn led a Silver Arrows 1-2 in both sessions, pipping Lewis Hamilton by only 0.047 seconds in FP2.
