Routledge out for the season

The Swansea winger missed the 3-2 win over Newcastle on Saturday and will now sit out the remaining games against Stoke, Arsenal, Manchester City and Crystal Palace in the hope of recovering in time for pre-season training in July.

Routledge has been a regular under manager Garry Monk this season – making 27 starts as Swansea have set a new club Premier League points record – and signed a one-year extension in September that will keep him in south Wales until 2018.

Monk said at the time that the 30-year-old, who has made over 150 appearances for Swansea after playing for eight different clubs, “has found a home where he can be himself.”

Swansea have recalled Gambian winger Modou Barrow from his loan spell at Nottingham Forest as cover after Ecuador winger Jefferson Montero also picked up a thigh injury at Newcastle.

“We are down to the bare bones,” Monk said after the victory at St James’ Park took Swansea to the 50-point mark for the first time in their Premier League history.
