Chelsea stars revel in title

Jose Mourinho’s side went into the game needing victory to claim the title with three games to spare and Eden Hazard headed in the rebound after missing a first-half penalty to seal their first league title in five years.

“Unbelievable, we’ve worked so hard this year,” the Blues skipper told Sky Sports 1.

“To get over the line today was a tough match, we were a little bit nervous but we got over the line and are champions.”

Terry has played every minute of every Premier League game this season and ranked this league title triumph as being every bit as special as the three others he has won during his time at Stamford Bridge.

“The first time is very special obviously, (but) when you go four or five years without winning it and you see teams (winning the league) and you’ve grafted all year and you get nothing it really hurts – we’re going to enjoy today.”

Player of the season Hazard scored the only goal of the game, nodding home on the rebound after his penalty was parried by Julian Speroni.

Fabregas secured the title in his first season at Chelsea following his recruitment last summer from Barcelona.

Asked how he felt at the final whistle, the midfielder told Sky Sports: ???You cannot describe it. We???ve waited so long for this. It???s a relief, a relief. We???ve been fighting very hard all season. We???re very proud.???

And Fabregas, who failed to win the title when he was at Arsenal, admitted the prospect of joining Jose Mourinho at a club with high expectations was attractive.

???Chelsea are a very competitive club ??? you have the pressure to win, otherwise you get out of the club. I like this kind of pressure. Party time!??? he said.

Hazard said: ???It???s amazing. We had to be champions. We are 13 points ahead. We???ve won the cup, we???ve won the season now. All of Chelsea is happy today.

On his goal he added: ???I know with my head I???m not good. I tried to put the ball in ??? and it was good. Lucky today!???

Hazard credited Mourinho with his outstanding form this season.

???He gave me a lot of confidence. He let me play. I can play my best football on the pitch,??? he said.

???The team needs me, needs a player like me, like Willian, like Diego (Costa). We are here to score ??? to try to change the game. All the players did very well.???

Drogba, the talisman of Jose Mourinho’s ‘first coming’ to Stamford Bridge, was delighted to celebrate the triumphant reclaiming of the league title after Chelsea’s 1-0 victory of Crystal Palace confirmed them as champions.

Comparing this title triumph to his three previous victorious Premier League campaigns Drogba said: “I think I prefer to live with the present and this one is sweet, this one is sweet also.

“With me or without me, Chelsea will always be number one.

“I’m happy that I’m part of this but Chelsea is bigger than me and they will always win.”

It was the third time that Drogba has won the Premier League title in a match at Stamford Bridge, something which he savoured: “Third time here and it’s an amazing feeling – fantastic – the fans – amazing, you know, they’re the best.”

Asked about his future from here he would only say: “A good rest, a good celebration…and that’s it.”
