Plunkett punished by Yorkshire

The 30-year-old returned last week from England’s tour of the West Indies and?? failed to attend his scheduled club commitments on Saturday, prompting coach Jason Gillespie to take action.

“I am very disappointed with Liam,” said the Australian, who has been linked with the newly available England head coach vacancy.

“He knows that he has crossed the line and he will pay the price of missing out on selection for this game.

“Liam has apologised and we have accepted his apology. He is disappointed in himself for letting his team-mates down. Hopefully he will learn from this.

“Players are fully aware that we will not tolerate breaches of ill-discipline. Our internal code of conduct is sacrosanct and fundamental to driving us on as a successful club.”

Plunkett will still be on hand at Headingley for today’s opening day of play as 12th man, before joining up with the second XI for their four-day clash with Kent, starting on Monday.
