Having just been called for an offensive foul which led to the Bulls squaring the scores with eight seconds left, James overruled a play from coach David Blatt to land the winning shot from just inside the three-point line.
After James’ run was blocked off by Nikola Mirotic, Blatt told his star man during a review break that he wanted him to inbound the ball. James overruled him and landed the winner – two of his 25 points on the night – with nothing left on the clock.
Derrick Rose led the Bulls with 31 and the sides now head to Cleveland where they start a best-of-three.
It was far more clear cut in the night’s other game as the Los Angeles Clippers drubbed the Houston Rockets 128-95 to move 3-1 up.
DeAndre Jordan scored 26 points – 14 of them from the line as Houston intentionally fouled him – and put up 17 rebounds, with Blake Griffin adding 21 points.
James Harden posted a best of 21 points for Houston.
