Russian Grand Prix: Race as it happened

Follow all the action from Race day at the Russian Grand Prix live right here.

21:45 And here is the winner! Thank you again for joining us this weekend! We’ve had three winners in four races now, so F1 2017 keeps on delivering surprises. We’ll be back in two weeks to talk to you from Spain, but until then, take care. Bye for now!

21:42 It was a tense, grueling chess game rather than a story of all out action, but the 2017 Russian Grand Prix certainly kept us guessing right until the end!

21:40 The final order for you!

21:37 Bottas is still in front, he’s ice cold under pressure, he wins! Valtteri Bottas is F1 Grand Prix winner number 107! Vettel is only a second behind at the flag, with Raikkonen in P3!

21:32 No nails left…

21:29 Into the last few laps now, Bottas is holding steady…

21:25 Fine margins…

21:21 Here we go then. 10 odd laps left: Bottas vs Vettel. Begin!

21:16 Vettel closes to within 2 seconds on Bottas…

21:14 All to play for…

21:10 If you don’t know, ask.

21:07 Finally Vettel pits! The German is back out in P2, just ahead of Raikkonen.

21:05 It’s a lonely old time for a certain Dutchman…

21:00 Hamilton has pitted and rejoined in P4. Vettel has stayed out, Ferrari are going long on the German’s strategy.

20:55 Bottas pits! The stop is smooth and the Finn rejoins in P4 on supersofts. He’ll go to the end.

20:53 Bit of a counter-attack from Vettel, the gap is under 3 seconds again.

20:48 Order for you, it’s all holding steady…

20:43 Vettel has started to complain about blistering on one of his front tyres, as Bottas pushes his advantage over the five-second mark.

20:38 The three-time world champion is cutting a frustrated figure as Vettel and Bottas trade fastest laps…

20:33 Matters aren’t going well for Hamilton at all. The Brton is already 3.5 seconds adrift of Raikkonen, and 11 seconds behind leader Bottas.

20:30 There’s a Finn flying out front, but it isn’t Mika Hakkinen…

20:26 Both Magnussen and Vandoorne have been given a 5-second penalty for ignoring track limits at Turn 2. Hamilton has been complaining about intermittent power cuts, but Mercedes have told their man to keep going.

20:21 The order for you, of course Ricciardo has dropped out entirely.

20:18 Oh no! Daniel Ricciardo’s brakes have given up! The Aussie was in P7 but it’s all over for him now. Wretched fortune for the Honey Badger!

20:15 Right, let’s get back to it! Bottas leads them away, and the top four hold station.

20:13 Images of that hefty crash for you…

20:09 Okay, for real now…Here…we…GO! Mega start from Bottas! He jumps into the lead, with Vettel second and Raikkonen P3! The Silver Finn really flew off the line. Now a Safety Car! A big accident involving Grosjean and Palmer has put paid to their ambitions!

20:04 Aborted start! Alonso’s McLaren has stopped just before the entrance to the pit lane. End of day for the Spaniard. Vettel leads them round again…

20:00 Formation lap, Vettel leads the field off. Everybody seems to have gotten away okay…

19:55 Five minutes to go!

19:50 Ten minutes to lights out, all the cars are now on the grid.

19:45 Hamilton has been on the podium for every race held at this circuit. Can the Briton continue that successful run?

19:40 Some weather news: Air temperature 25 degrees, track temperature 41 degrees. In other news, it appears that Red Bull have managed to solve Verstappen’s issues for the moment.

19:35The run through Turn One and Turn Two could get pretty hairy, it’s a fairly long sprint before a sharp stop into the second corner. It presents an opportunity for great progress, or utter disaster.

19:30 A bit of non-race news for you: Sauber have announced that they will be making use of a Honda power unit from 2018 onwards. The Swiss team currently use the 2016 version of Ferrari’s power unit.

19:25 On the strategy front, the Sochi Autodrom has relatively low tyre degradation, so one stop should be entirely possible. Two stops is also an option, but is expected to be slightly slower. Of course, if the Safety Car or any other unexpected events make an appearance, everything can change.

19:20 Now is as good a time as any to remind you of some changes to today’s grid. Carlos Sainz is serving a 3-place penalty for colliding with Lance Stroll back in Bahrain, which sees him move back to P14, while Stoffel Vandoorne will start dead last after a string of penalties for exceeding the allowed number of power unit components.

19:15 It was a scrappy Saturday for Lewis Hamilton in the other Mercedes. He ended up half a second adrift of the front, which is highly unusual for him.

19:10 News from Red Bull: Max Verstappen’s RB13 has a water leak, and the team are working furiously to ensure that he can start the race.

19:05 Sebastian Vettel led the way in Qualifying yesterday, pipping teammate Kimi Raikkonen and Mercedes’ Valtteri Bottas by 0.59 and 0.95 seconds respectively. This is the first Grand Prix since France 2008 in which Ferrari has locked out the front row.
