Cardinals win again

Colorado snapped a seven-game skid with a 5-4 success against the Los Angeles Dodgers.

There was also a weather-enforced interruption at Petco Park, where Derek Norris emerged to notch a three-run homer in the first inning and a two-run triple in the second as the San Diego Padres got past the Washington Nationals 8-3.

A four-run seventh inning helped the Houston Astros rally for a

6-4 triumph over the Toronto Blue Jays at Minute Maid Park.

Preston Tucker had three hits and Jonathan Villar drove in a two-run double to turn things in the home team’s favour after back-to-back first-inning homers by Jose Bautista and Edwin Encarnacion had put the Blue Jays in the ascendancy.

Rene Rivera finished with four RBI – he hit a three-run homer on reliever Esmil Rogers’ first pitch – as the Tampa Bay Rays toppled the New York Yankees 6-1.

Erasmo Ramirez allowed one hit over five scoreless innings at Tropicana Field. The only highlight for the visitors arrived when Alex Rodriguez posted his 1,000th RBI with the Yankees.

Dexter Fowler homered and posted the go-ahead run on a passed ball in the seventh inning as the Chicago Cubs rallied from a four-run deficit to edge the New York Mets 6-5. Anthony Recker went deep twice for the Mets, but could not prevent the Cubs from completing a four-game sweep.

In other games, the Detroit Tigers trounced the Minnesota Twins 13-1, the Boston Red Sox were 2-1 winners against the Seattle Mariners, the Cincinnati Reds squeezed past the San Francisco Giants 4-3, the Philadelphia Phillies beat the Pittsburgh Pirates 4-2 and the Kansas City Royals saw off the Texas Rangers 6-3.
